Drinking A Little Whiskey Might Actually Help Relieve Cold Symptoms

Common colds are highly unpleasant and lead to numerous symptoms that can interrupt our everyday life. Colds might vary from one person to another. It can range from runny nose to low-grade fever and we don't want that. Although there are is no real cure for common colds, you will benefit a lot from a bit of whiskey.

Yes, you read that right- W H I S K E Y. You might be rolling your eyes right now but believe me! Dr. William Schaffner, chair of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, says:

“The alcohol dilates blood vessels a little bit, and that makes it easier for your mucus membranes to deal with the infection"

CAUTION: This doesn't mean you can open that bottle and gulp it all down. This too shall be taken in moderation and the best way is by this recipe.

  • 1 oz (2 tablespoons) bourbon/whsikey
  • 1 tablespoon mild honey
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup boiling-hot water

  • Put bourbon, honey, and lemon juice in a 6-ounce mug.
  • Top off with hot water
  • stir until honey is dissolved

Namely, you can relieve the inevitable winter cold with the help of a combination of lemon juice, honey, whiskey, and hot water, and this hot toddy will treat nasal congestion with ease, and soothe the body like a bowl of hot chicken soup.

Cheers and say good bye to that cold!
